The Brazilian Public Key Infrastructure – ICP-Brasil is a hierarchical chain of trust that enables the issuance of digital certificates for the virtual identification of citizens. 2. What is the Digital Certificate? The Digital Certificate ICP-Brasil is an electronic document whose main function is to prove the identity of the citizen or company in electronic media and provide a legal and secure way to digitally sign documents and transactions carried out in these environments. It is the electronic document that enables the secure exchange of information between two parties, guaranteeing the identity of the sender, the integrity of the message and, optionally, its confidentiality. A digital signature is a type of electronic signature equivalent to a handwritten signature, which proves the authorship and integrity of a digital document. Generated from the use of the Digital Certificate ICP-Brasil, the digital signature has full legal value guaranteed by Brazilian legislation. 3. Benefits * With the Digital Certificate ICP-Brasil it is possible to carry out a series of procedures virtually, without the need to go in person to government agencies and companies or print documents. * Signing digital documents and contracts: documents digitally signed with a Digital Certificate ICP-Brasil have the same validity as documents signed on paper. * Authentication in systems: There are several systems with sensitive information, especially government, that can only be accessed through identity confirmation.
